9 Men Milwall FC hold Steadfast FC to a 1-1 draw

Millwall FC managed to hold Steadfast FC to a 1-1 draw in the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA), First Division Play-off match held on Wednesday afternoon at St Xavier’s ground, Parel.
The First Division playoffs began on Wednesday with Millwall FC locking horns with Steadfast FC in the group D fixture. To everyone’s surprise Millwall FC started the game with 9 men because of the absentee of their players and later became 10. To their credit Millwall put up a good show against Steadfast FC in the first half considering the number. And it was Millwall who took the lead when number 14 Kenyon Affonso netted the goal shocking the opposition. Steadfast SC were able to dictate play but an astute Millwall side stayed firm hanging onto the lead. At halftime it was 1-0 in favour of Millwall.
The second was naturally going to be a full on Steadfast FC half. With a man’s advantage and a goal down it was them who needed to step up. And they did just that controlling the game for most periods in the second half. To their credit they managed to find the equaliser when number 3 Daison Cherian scored the goal. Millwall with already a man short received a blow when number 14 Kenyon Affonso was shwn the red card for dangerous play. It was all Steadfast FC towards the end who very nearly came to scroing the winner but were denied by an astute Millwall goalkeeper and the crossbar.
The game became chaotic with Steadfast FC and Millwall FC players committing fouls. Towards the end number 7 Loardston Soares was shown a straight red for a dangerous foul on the opposition player. The match ended in a 1-1 draw. But the referee’s decision are questionable. Minor fouls were overlooked which led to game getting out of hands. And in the end there were a lot confrontations. Once again an MDFA match has witnessed a fight. Somethings are really not right in this association but in that case we will soon be putting up a write-up soon
