Day 2 Round up: Don Bosco Challenge Cup 2016

The second day of Don Bosco Challenge Cup 2016 concluded on a high note on Sunday morning as some of the best games of the Tournament took place at the Don Bosco College Ground, Kurla.
The Tournament which is organized in the memory of Seven Don Bosco College students, who lost their life in a tragic incident in October has already reached the expectations it created prior to the Tournament.
Here are the Round up of Day 2:
Mumbai FC U19 v/s Central Bank of India (CBI): After both the team played out a goalless fifty minutes, the match went into the penalties where Mumbai FC U19 converted all of their seven penalties to win the tie 7-6 and made it into the Quarters, which will be played on next Sunday.
Central Bank of India’s custodian Siddhant who also went on to win the Man of the Match award was turning out to be the difference with some splendid saves over the course of the match. But the goalkeeper unfortunately couldn’t emulate his performance in the penalties.
Both the teams scored their first six penalties before Central Bank of India’s Russel saw his penalty going way over the bar which gave Mumbai FC a huge opportunity to seal the match.
Manish Shetty stepped up and converted his spot kick to send Mumbai FC into the next round.
Air India U19 v/s Dadar XI: In the second match Air India U19 outperformed Dadar XI as they thrashed them 8-0 to progress into the next round.
Six out those eight goals came in the second-half. Dadar XI were lucky that they didn’t conceded more goals as Air India turned out to be a nightmare for the Dadar XI players.
Their best performer Troy Nunes opened the scoring in the first-half before Bipin made it 2-0, courtesy of a 35 yard goal which nestle into the top right corner.
In the second-half, Dadar XI’s defender Shahun was unfortunate to see his loose header going into his own net which made it 3-0 in favor of Air India. Troy once again proved to be fatal when his pin point through ball found Jagdish who brilliantly flicked the ball into the back of the net to register Air India’s fourth goal of the match.
Few minutes later Troy once again found the back of the net from outside the box to make it 5-0. The striker was having a fantastic day and it got better when his brilliantly taken corner was finished by Jagdish with a scorpion kick which left everyone in awe.
Sohail Khatri and Dan’s long range goal further made it 8-0 and with this thumping victory Air India U19 cruises into the next round.
Dadar XI’s Bryce was named as Man of the Match.
Kenkre ‘A’ v/s Twinkle Stars: Athang’s brace helped Kenkre ‘A’ to gun down Twinkle Stars 4-2 in their first round match.
Athang opened the scoring with a lovely finish from inside the box before Nathan buried his effort from the right flank to make it 2-0 for Kenkre ‘A’.
Twinkle Stars Tabrez scored a scorcher from 35 yards to pull one back but Athang once again increased Kenkre’s lead with a left footed thunderbolt late in the first-half.
Faizan who just came on for Twinkle Stars made it interesting after a 25 yard goal which once again cut short the deficit to one goal. Twinkle Stars came close number of times but failed to prove clinical in front of goal which cost them the match.
In the stoppage time Emaad scored Kenkre’s fourth and final goal to seal the match. For his impressive performance Tabrez was named as Man of the Match.
Companeores v/s Dena Bank: Goals from Siddhesh Batawale, Carlton Miranda and Oliver helped Companeores to defeat Dena Bank 3-1 in order to progress into the next round.
Siddhesh Batawale opened the scoring with a beautiful header before Carlton Miranda made it 2-0 from a free kick.
Dena Bank was wasteful in front of the goal as tons of chances were wasted for the majority of the match. Oliver made it 3-0 for Companeores in the second-half to put the final nail into the coffin.
Although Dena Bank’s Uemair Ansari scored late in the match, it proved to be too late too little for the Bankers. For his goal Ansari also received a Man of the Match award.
The Quarter finals will be played on next Sunday as the Second day of Don Bosco Challenge Cup 2016 concludes.
