Delighted Khalid Jamil lauds his players after Bengaluru win

Mumbai FC stunned the I-League leaders Bengaluru FC, beating them 2-0 at Cooperage on Wednesday evening to move to the third place in the I-League table. The win also ended Bengaluru FC’s 15 game unbeaten run in the competition, while Mumbai FC extended their run without a loss to 11 games in the I-League.
Khalid Jamil expressed his delight as he underlined the importance of the win against a formidable opponent like Mumbai FC. “I am very happy with the performance. These are very crucial points against a very good team. It was a difficult game, but we played very well for the points and that pleased me,” Khalid Jamil told the media after the game.
Jamil spoke highly of his players as he dissected his team’s display, heaping praise on his striking duo of Ryuki Kozawa and Sushil Kumar Singh. Jamil felt that the two players executed his tactics brilliantly and that stopped Bengaluru FC from playing in the game. “Ryuki and Sushil had an excellent game. We knew their centre backs Osano and Johnson like to play the ball out and are good in doing so, so I asked my forward to prevent them from distributing the ball and they did that to perfection. They made all kinds of runs and engaged their defenders and I felt that was key in us winning the game,” suggested the Mumbai FC Head Coach who was all smiles during the press conference, a sight which isn’t always seen as he reacts to a game.
But Jamil who was clearly impressed with his team’s efforts hailed young Clyde’s performance, before claiming crowd favourite Jayesh Rane could have played another ninety minutes, pointing at his lung busting run in the 90th minute. “Clyde was very good today. The thought of taking him off never crossed my mind today. Jayesh also was superb, his run in the last minute showed that he could have easily played another ninety minutes. I wish he would have made more such runs earlier and we would have had 2-3 more chances to score,” said the former Mahindra United midfielder.
The Mumbai FC gaffer was in jolly mood as he began describing Min Chol Son’s crazy long range goal. Jamil said Son’s goal reminded him of Taisuke’s goal against Pune FC last season as he claimed to provide one such goal every season. “The goal tells us what football can do to you with a bit of a luck. Anyways it was good goal, a bit like Taisuke’s goal against Pune FC last campaign. See, we give you one such goal every year,” joked Jamil.
Khalid Jamil however refused to get too carried away with the success and urged his team to go for a third consecutive win when Mumbai FC travel to DSK Shivajians in ten days from today. Jamil also cooled down any title talks and believed his team would first look to safeguard their position in the league next season before looking too far ahead. “We must now try and get a third win against DSK, who are a very good side. It is important to first get to the safety point and then look at where we can end up. I am just taking one game at a point at this moment,” Jamil concluded.
