Fr Agnel held to a goalless draw by Cr Railway Mumbai Division
Father Agnel were held to a 0-0 draw by Central Railway Mumbai Division side in the Mumbai District Football Association ( MDFA) Super Division match held on Monday evening at St Xavier’s ground, Parel.
Fr Agnel And Central Railway ( Cr Railway) Mumbai Division played out a goal less first half. In what looked like a game Fr Agnel could run away with, Cr Railway MD did not give them a chance to covert the opportunities they created. Fr Agnel played one touch football for most parts of the half prioritizing the wings to create chances. They very nearly scored the opening goal when the left back made a run down the left to cut in only for his pass to have blocked and cleared by the opposition. Cr Railway did not create much in the first half as they spent most of the half clearing their lines. Although they had one glorious chance through a free-kick which went away from the left top corner.
Throughout the half Cr Railway played a physical game not allowing Fr Agnel to complete their passes. Their last ditch challenges were deadly. Although when it looked like Agnel boys were through on goal Cr Railway threw alot of bodies at the shots fired at goal .Their goalkeeper made the best save of the match when a ball down the right was headed towards the Railway goal by Agnel’s striker only for their keeper to palm it out keeping the score 0-0. Both teams when into halftime with a 0-0 scoreline.
Central Railway came out the brightest as they started to launch long balls forward. Their movement improved as they were much more attacking. A moment of madness took place midway through the second half as a goal kick launched forward led to Agnel’s number 14 Pratik Jani elbowing Cr Railway number 9 Dilip Kumar. After a few exchange of words both players were shown a straight red for violent conduct. A fair decision which kept the game at ten a side.
From then on the game looked a bit dull as both teams failed to capitalise on each others mistakes. The final killer balls went missing. Fr Agnel tried their best to go for the winner but their efforts were denied by a staunch Cr Railway goalkeeper.
What looked like a game in which Fr Agnel would run away with match slowly began to look like one in which Central Railway MD would knick it. Only for both teams to end goal less. Central Railway will be the happier of the two as they lacked creativity upfront and played most of the game for a point. Whereas Fr Agnel will look at this a missed opportunity to get all the points.
