Dena Bank strikes late to overcome Springfields FC

Dena Bank ran out as 2-1 winners against Springfield FC in the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) Super Division at St Xaviers Ground on Monday evening.

Arfat Ansari gave Dena Bank an early lead on the 22nd minute, but late in the second-half Springfield’s Akshay Shetty got the equalizer before Dena Bank restored the parity through Neal Rodrigues, which turned out to be the decisive goal.

Dena Bank started off brightly which saw them squandering two great chances, which could have given them an early breakthrough. But it did took The Bankers a mere 22 minutes to open the scoring.

Arfat Ansari squeezed past Springfield’s defense line and slotted his effort under the helpless goalkeeper to give Dena Bank a deserving lead.

Springfield had a good 20 minutes before the half-time whistle as they kept pressing Dena Bank’s midfield in order to dispossesed the Bankers. But a organized backline proved too strong for Springfield, who had to went into the break with one goal down.

In the second-half, Springfield finally managed to get the equalizer on the 72nd minute.

Akshay Shetty caught the Dena Bank’s defense napping in front of the goal and delivered a huge blow when the number 14 placed his shot in the back of the net to make things even.

But there was a twist in the tale to follow on. Dena Bank restored the parity just three minutes after Akshay got the equalizer when Neal Rodrigues found the back of the net with a powerful drive.

Neal’s goal was enough for the Bankers who held their nerves in the dying minutes to escape with all three points.
