Century Rayon’s complete performance decimates Naval Dockyard 3-0

On the 3rd of December ’15, Century Rayon played Naval Dockyard in the Mumbai District Football Association (M.D.F.A.) Division 1 game at St. Xavier’s Ground, Parel.

Century Rayon score past Naval Dockyard, after leading the game by 2 goals to zero at the Half-Time whistle. Sagar Bedekar opened the goalscoring chart on the 6th minute mark to give his side an early momentum to build upon.

In the 13th minute mark, Thoy Vashum gave his side a two goal cushion. The third goal would come later in the 2nd half on the 74th minute mark through Roger Sam. The game concluded 3-0 in favour of Century Rayon.

The first chance of the game fell to No.13 Prateek Thakur in the 5th minute, but his attempted shot from left of the 18 yardbox was gathered by the opposition goalkeeper M.T. Sankati with ease.

The goal looked eminent with the amount of pressure from Century Rayon in initial moments of the match, and on the 7th minute mark, no.19 Sagar Bedekar scored the opening after receiving a low-cross into the box from no.17 Thoy Vashum.

Sagar was under no pressure whatsoever when he slotted the ball past the goalkeeper’s right before controlling it inside the penalty area.

In the 9th minute of play, no.17 Thoy Vashum’s long-ball to no.19 Sagar Bedekar who volleyed the back past the goalkeeper after initially controlling the ball with his chest only to be flagged offside, after his mistimed run was correctly spotted by the referee on the far-side.

Another chance fell to the goalscorer a couple of minutes, later, when the goalkeeper of Naval Dockyard got his shot horribly wrong as his mistimed his shot bounced off himself and straight to the no.19 who couldn’t shoot the ball into an open goal.

But the goal finally did arrive, and a much needed one for Century Rayon who were due a second-goal for their effortless attacking. In the 13th minute, no.17 Thoy Vashum finished off a 1v1 chance, who was under pressure from a Naval Dockyard center-back; after initially receiving a perfectly weighted through pass from no.13 Prateek Thakur.

The men in red of Century Rayon dominated the game with possession and creating good chances + retained back the ball quickly after giving it away.

They also held a high-line while staying strong and composed at the back. Century Rayon also tried to score from different areas: trying long-range efforts, crosses and cutbacks into the box. Making the goalkeeper make save from most of the their attempted shots.

In the 28th minute, Sagar Bedekar was granted a wonderful chance to put this tie to bed via a 1v1 chance, but the no.19 failed to convert this chance.

Naval Dockyard got their foot into the game in the last quarter of the first half, but couldn’t convert enough chances or penetrate through a strong Century Rayom defence. On occasions they also tried to shoot from range when there were no real gaps in the opposition defence to exploit.

In the 2nd half of the match, Century Rayom tried to protect their lead, and tried to score the much needed 3 goal. They pressed higher up the field giving the opposition not much time to settle in, but in the process they gave away fouls on occasion through which the under-pressure side got an outlet to launched attacks, although they failed to win most of the second balls and thus gave away such opportunities far too easily.

Both teams looked like they have given away most of themselves in the first 45 minutes of play. They failed to add an edge required to break down the opposition defence, lacking quality in the attack third. Although like the first half Century Rayon looked more threatening with the chances they created, and were motivated to score the third and put this match to bed.

Meanwhile Naval Dockyard let Century Rayon come towards them, as they tried to hit them on the counter on occasions; as they lacked quality to dominate the game, but largely they invited trouble through this approach rather than coming back into the game.

The game came close to a third goal midway through the second-half when no.14 Roger Sam hit the inside of the left post from an attempted cross from the right-flank. In a similar effort minutes later no.14 attempted shot or rather cross from the right found its way into the left top corner.

With the team 3-0 up at the 75th minute mark and the final quarter still let, the match was lost for Naval Dockyard, who never really looked like scoring at any point of the game.
