The Final of the 3rd edition of the Orlem Super Cup 2015-16 was played between St. Josephs (Mira Road) and newcomers Holy Name (Colaba). Although the Final was largely interrupted by heavy rains which made the outfield slippery, it still delivered one of the best matches of the Tournament.
Holy Name (Colaba) dominated majority of the match as the duo of Valentine Pereira and Roger Sam ran riot in the opposition’s defense. Roger Sam, who scored a acrobatic goal in the Semis tried to execute a similar move but his shot failed to connect to his right feet.
Chances kept pouring in for the Colaba outfit but with Vivek Tiwari on helm for St. Josephs, it was near to impossible to score past him. Both the teams failed to break the deadlock in the first-half as it was all down to the next twenty-five minutes.
Holy Name’s Valentine Pereira came close again in the second-half but his right footed drive was well saved by Vivek Tiwari’s safe hands.
The deadlock was finally broken when Tournament’s top scorer Ritesh Perembera scored through a stunning free kick which bamboozled in the top corner to give St. Josephs (Mira Road) a astounding lead.
Colaba had ten minutes to get the equalizer, but Vivek Tiwari had another plans. He stood like a wall infront of the goal which kept denying Holy Name (Colaba). With only a minute left on clock, Tejas Raut’s header was brilliantly saved by Vivek, yet again which summed up Holy Name’s night.
It was St. Josephs (Mira Road) night as they fought against all odds to win the glittering trophy with a cash prize of 40000 Rupees.
The Trophy was felicitated by Mohammad Yusuf Ansari to St. Josephs Captain.
