Punjab FC Turn It Around with Clinical Second-Half Comeback

Punjab FC produced a spirited second-half comeback to defeat Mohammedan Sporting Club 2-1 in their Indian Super League 2025-26 clash at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi, securing a crucial three points.

The hosts started brightly, creating early chances and applying pressure on the Mohammedan defence. Nsungusi Jr came close in the opening minutes, striking the crossbar, while Muhammed Uvais also threatened with a header that narrowly missed the target. Despite Punjab’s early dominance, it was Mohammedan who struck first in the 29th minute. A well-timed through ball from Hira Mondal released Lalremsanga Fanai, who finished calmly to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.

Punjab continued to push forward in search of an equaliser before the break, with Dani Ramírez and Nsungusi Jr both going close. The closest opportunity came just before halftime when Suresh Meitei’s powerful effort rattled the crossbar, leaving the hosts trailing at the interval.

The second half saw a dramatic shift in momentum following tactical changes by Punjab. Just minutes after the restart, Nsungusi Jr brought his side level, finishing calmly after a well-worked move involving Ramírez and Samir Zeljković.

Punjab completed the turnaround shortly after, as Bede Osuji set up Ramírez, who made no mistake in finishing into an empty net to give the hosts a 2-1 lead. The quick double strike put Punjab firmly in control of the contest.

With the lead secured, Punjab continued to threaten in attack while maintaining composure at the back. Mohammedan attempted to find a way back into the game in the closing stages, but lacked the final touch to trouble the hosts.

The final whistle confirmed a well-earned victory for Punjab FC, with their second-half response proving decisive in securing all three points.
