Reliance Foundation Young Champs grabbed an impressive 6-1 win over Brothers Sports Association in the regional final of Dream Sports Championship's Mumbai leg at the Cooperage Football Stadium on Friday.

Reliance Foundation Young Champs grabbed an impressive 6-1 win over Brothers Sports Association in the regional final of Dream Sports Championship’s Mumbai leg at the Cooperage Football Stadium on Friday.

They are now the third team to qualify for the National Finals of this U-17 tournament after Chennaiyin FC (Bengaluru regional winners) and Punjab FC (Delhi regional winners).

Atul B Pulipra opened the scoring for RFYC in the 16th minute. Midfielder Faris A soon made it 2-0 in the 24th minute of the first half and put the side in a strong position.

The Brothers Sports Association got a breather when Aryan Tamang added his name to the scoresheet in the 49th minute. But RFYC had other plans, with four goals in the second half. Faris scored his second goal in the 68th minute while Shawn Fernandes netted two in the 72nd and the 84th minute respectively.

The final blow was given by substitute Ayush Sihag as he scored one in the 87th minute to make it 6-1 as his team were crowned champions.

“While we performed well during the group stages, our performance in the final really stood out. We are a very close-knit team, and this gives us the perfect momentum heading into the national finals. The Dream Sports Championship was a well-organized, professional tournament. We’re very happy with the arrangements – from on-time kickoffs to the setup. It was a great spectacle organised by the Dream Sports Foundation,” said RFYC coach Jayaraj G.

Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) and Brothers Sports Association showcased impressive performances on their way to the Mumbai regional final. RFYC started strongly with a 3-0 win over Community Football Club India featuring Shadhil EK’s brace, and then secured their final spot with a commanding 4-0 victory against Mumbai School Sports Association, where Shawn Fernandes scored twice in the first half, followed by goals from Pritom Brahma and Faris A.

Brothers Sports Association began their campaign by dominating Thane City FC 5-0 with Nibash Singh’s hat-trick complementing early strikes from Roldan Dsilva and Teinam Marshilong, and then sealed their final berth with a comeback 3-1 win over Mumbai City FC, where Gavisht Goyal, captain Teinam Marshilong, and Nibash Singh scored after falling behind to an early Neev Chhipa goal.
