As Mumbai Knights prepare to compete in the Indian Women’s League (IWL) 2, three of their standout players have been selected to play in the top tier of Indian women’s football—a significant milestone for the academy and its players.
Mansi Samre – Sethu FC
Captain and stalwart defender Mansi Samre has signed with Sethu FC. Known for her defensive brilliance and composure under pressure, Mansi played a pivotal role in Mumbai Knights’ stellar MFA campaign. Her leadership at the back ensured the team’s formidable defensive record, with only four goals conceded throughout the season.
Priyanka Sujeesh – East Bengal FC
Priyanka Sujeesh, who represented India U-18 in the SAFF Cup 2018, makes a triumphant return to the IWL after recovering from a brief injury setback. Her comeback season with MKFA was nothing short of remarkable, as she rediscovered her goal-scoring form and confidence. Indian football giants East Bengal FC quickly recognized her talent, signing her for their current IWL campaign.
Pranita Nimkar – Gokulam Kerala FC
Pranita Nimkar’s extraordinary 2024 season saw her emerge as a defensive dynamo with an unexpected flair for scoring goals. With 18 goals to her name, she not only anchored the team’s defense but also contributed significantly in attack. A Coach’s Pride
Head Coach Preetam Mahadik, who doubles as the academy’s owner, expressed immense pride in his players’ achievements. “Priyanka, Mansi, and Pranita have been integral members of the Mumbai Knights family. We are incredibly proud of their hard work and dedication, which have earned them these well-deserved opportunities with East Bengal FC, Sethu FC, and Gokulam Kerala FC. We will always support them in their journey and eagerly anticipate their continued success,” he stated.

The Secret Behind the Success
The academy’s success is rooted in its rigorous training regimen and innovative development strategies. Players undergo five intensive training sessions weekly, which include tactical drills, beach sessions, and specialized fitness routines. Under the meticulous guidance of Preetam Mahadik and his dedicated coaching staff, the players have received unparalleled support to hone their skills.
One unique aspect of their training is participation in the GoEqual Premier League, a co-ed platform that allows female players to compete alongside and against male footballers. This initiative not only sharpens their technical abilities, tougher competition but also boosts their confidence immensly. The league embodies the philosophy of #EqualInLifeEqualOnField, promoting equal opportunities for all players.
Inspiring the Next Generation
Mumbai Knights Football Academy’s holistic approach to player development has proven to be a game-changer. By nurturing talent and creating pathways to professional football, the academy is inspiring countless young girls to dream big. Their recent success in producing players for the IWL – Indian Women football’s top tier – just shows about their dedication to elevating women’s football in India.
As the Mumbai Knights continue their journey, their impact on the Mumbai footballing community and beyond is undeniable. With vision rooted in excellence and equality, they are not just building a team but shaping the future of women’s football in the country.
