Mumbai City FC Clinch Semis Spot with Late Own Goal Win Over Kerala Blasters
Mumbai City FC secured their place in the semi-finals of the AIFF Super Cup 2025-26 after a narrow 1-0 win over Kerala Blasters FC at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Fatorda. The decisive moment came in the 88th minute when Freddy Lallawmawma’s own goal gave Mumbai City the winner.
The Islanders showed intent throughout the match, dominating possession and pressing aggressively from the start. Although Kerala Blasters had an early chance when Koldo Obieta broke through minutes into the game, Mumbai’s defence and goalkeeper Phurba Lachenpa managed to keep them at bay.
A turning point came just before half-time when Kerala were reduced to ten men after a red card for Sandeep Singh. That handed Mumbai City a numerical edge. In the second half, they maintained pressure, probing for the breakthrough. It finally arrived when a Pereyra Díaz ball caused confusion in Kerala’s defence, leading to the own goal.
With this result, Mumbai City leapfrog into the knockout phase, showing composure in a tight contest. Meanwhile, Kerala Blasters’ campaign ends in disappointment despite earlier strong results.
For Mumbai City, the path now leads to the semi-finals where they will look to build on this momentum. The narrow win underlines that even tightly contested matches can break in your favour with patience and discipline.
