Mohun Bagan Suspend Training Amid ISL Uncertainty, Other Clubs Follow
Mohun Bagan Super Giant (MBSG) have suspended their first-team training amid the ongoing uncertainty surrounding the Indian Super League (ISL), becoming the first club to take such a step. Following their move, other ISL sides, including FC Goa, Chennaiyin FC, and NorthEast United FC, also decided to pause their training sessions as doubts continue to grow over the league’s future.
The development came after the All India Football Federation (AIFF) failed to receive any valid bids for the ISL’s commercial rights before the tender deadline. The situation has left clubs unsure about the upcoming season’s schedule, financial structure, and operational plans.
Mohun Bagan’s decision to halt training was seen as a precautionary measure amid the uncertainty, with the club opting to wait for clear communication from the AIFF before resuming full activity. Their action soon prompted other teams to take similar steps, reflecting the widespread concern across the league.
The suspension of training sessions highlights the growing unease within Indian football as the ISL — the country’s top-tier competition, faces a period of instability. Clubs are now watching closely for updates from the AIFF on the next course of action.
For now, Mohun Bagan’s decision has set the tone across the league, as teams hold back from training until there is clarity on when and how the ISL will move forward.
