Maharashtra Football Set for New Era with Launch of Maharashtra State Men's Football League

The footballing landscape of Maharashtra is poised for a significant transformation with the imminent launch of the Maharashtra State Men’s Football League.

Spearheaded by the Western India Football Association (WIFA), this brand-new top-tier state league is set to kick off on May 10th, 2025, promising a thrilling month of competitive action and a vital pathway for clubs aspiring to reach the national stage.

For the first time, the state’s elite senior men’s clubs will converge in a unified league format, providing a crucial platform for talent development and enhanced exposure. The inaugural season of the Maharashtra State Men’s Football League will feature eight prominent teams representing a diverse geographical spread across the state:

  • Mumbai: MYJ-GM, MH Oranje FC
  • Pune: AIYFA Skyhawks FC, Snigmay FC
  • Thane: Navi Mumbai SA
  • Ratnagiri: Ratnagiri Pioneers FC
  • Raigad: Milan SB Foundation
  • Solapur: Magic Made Soccer

These teams will engage in a double round-robin format, meaning each club will play every other team twice. The inaugural season will see all matches held at the Sinhgad Sports Complex in Lonavala, a neutral venue chosen for its excellent facilities.

With fans asking for a state-wide football league, the Maharashtra State Men’s Football League is an encouraging move by WIFA to strengthen the footballing pyramid within the state. By providing a high-quality league structure, WIFA aims to bridge the gap between district-level competitions and the national leagues, offering a clear route for ambitious clubs from across the state to potentially qualify for the I-League 3 in the future.

Football pundits and fans alike will be keenly watching as these eight teams battle it out for supremacy in the inaugural season. The league promises to showcase the best of Maharashtra’s senior men’s football talent and is expected to generate significant interest across the state.
