Early Leaders emerge as Maharashtra State Men’s Football League kicks off with a bang

The inaugural Maharashtra State League explodes into action with Mumbai teams MYJ-GM and MH Oranje setting the early pace, while Magic Made Soccer shows grit despite disciplinary woes.
The inaugural Maharashtra State Men’s Football League has wasted no time in delivering excitement within the first two days of action. Across eight matches, 25 goals have been scored, hinting at the attacking intent that defines this new chapter in Maharashtra football. As teams vie for state supremacy and the coveted opportunity to qualify for the I-League 3, the initial performances offer a glimpse into the potential frontrunners.

Mumbai Premier League 2023-24 champions MYJ-GM have emerged as the early pacesetters, securing two confident victories. Their opening day win against Thane champions Navi Mumbai SA was assisted by veteran Allan’s early strike and youngster Rajendra Swain’s finish, which has set a strong precedent. They followed this up with another win a day later, courtesy of second-half goals from Himanshu Patil and Dwight Dabero to overcome a resilient AIYFA Skyhawks FC. MYJ-GM’s disciplined and clinical approach in both matches signals their intent to dominate the league from the outset.
MH Oranje FC provided the most emphatic statement of intent on Day 2, dismantling Ratnagiri Pioneers FC in a remarkable 11-0 victory. This dominant performance, fueled by five goals from Yogesh Kadam and four from Duane Dsouza, just showed how formidable the attack is and the ability to bounce back strongly after an opening-day draw. Meanwhile, Navi Mumbai SA recovered from their loss to MYJ-GM with a convincing 3-0 win over Milan SB Foundation, to kick off their campaign.

Meanwhile, Magic Made Soccer has carved out a unique narrative in the opening two days. Despite facing significant disciplinary hurdles after receiving a red card in both their matches, they have shown remarkable grit and determination. Against MH Oranje FC on Day 1, they managed to secure a hard-fought 1-1 draw despite being reduced to ten men early in the game. Their resilience was further highlighted on Day 2, where, once again playing with a numerical disadvantage, they edged out Snigmay FC with a narrow 1-0 victory courtesy of Rishi Chauhan’s decisive set-piece header. This ability to secure points despite persistent disciplinary issues speaks volumes about their defensive organization and fighting spirit, making them a team that opponents will underestimate at their peril.
Pune’s clubs have had a contrasting start. Snigmay FC showed early promise with a lead in the derby against AIYFA Skyhawks, but ultimately drew and then lost their second match. AIYFA Skyhawks displayed resilience in their derby comeback but then fell to league leaders MYJ-GM, indicating inconsistency in their initial performances.

The initial matches of the Maharashtra State League have laid the groundwork for a compelling season, showcasing a blend of dominant performances, resilient fightbacks, and early indications of the teams that will likely contend for the coveted title and a shot at national league progression
