East Bengal fall to Defending Champions Wuhan Jiangda in the AFC Women’s Champions League

East Bengal Women AFC Womens Champions League

East Bengal FC Women showed heart and determination but fell 2–0 to Wuhan Jiangda, the defending champions, in their second Group B match of the AFC Women’s Champions League 2025–26 on November 20, 2025.

Wuhan struck early through Wang Shuang, who scored in the 8th minute, and doubled the lead in the 17th minute via a penalty awarded after a VAR review. The early goals forced East Bengal onto the back foot, but the Indian side regrouped well and produced a much stronger second-half performance.

East Bengal created a handful of promising chances, especially through Soumya Guguloth and Fazila Ikwaput, yet they couldn’t convert their opportunities. Despite the defeat, the team’s resilience against one of Asia’s strongest sides was a clear positive.

The Red & Gold Brigade now turn their focus to their final Group B match against PFC Nasaf (Uzbekistan) on November 23, 2025, with kickoff scheduled for 1:30 PM IST. A strong result in that match could still keep them in contention as one of the best third-placed teams in the tournament.

East Bengal may have fallen short, but their fighting spirit keeps them very much alive in their maiden AFC Women’s Champions League campaign.
