Punjab FC Announces the Signing of Croatian Midfielder Filip Mrzlijak

Punjab FC has announced the signing of Croatian midfielder Filip Mrzlijak, marking their first foreign signing for the upcoming 2024-25 season. Mrzlijak, a 31-year-old from Zagreb, previously played for Croatian top-flight club HNK Gorcia.

Mrzlijak, primarily a defensive midfielder, is a product of the renowned Dinamo Zagreb Academy, which has produced stars like Luka Modric and Mateo Kovacic. He began his professional career with Dinamo Zagreb before going on loan to Radnik Sesvete in Zagreb. His career includes stints at Croatian top-flight club Lokomotiva, Romanian clubs Pandurii Targu Jiu, Astra Giurgiu, Dinamo Bucuresti, Russian club FC Ufa, and finally HNK Gorcia.

Internationally, Mrzlijak has represented Croatia in all youth categories from Under-14 to Under-21, including appearances in the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup and the 2012 UEFA U19 Championships.

Nikolaos Topoliatis, Punjab FC’s Technical Director, expressed his enthusiasm for the signing, stating, “We are excited to have Filip in our ranks for the upcoming season. He is an experienced campaigner who has played in Europe at the highest level of youth football. He will add steel to the midfield and be a leader in and out of the field.”

Mrzlijak’s addition is expected to bring experience and leadership to Punjab FC’s midfield as they prepare for the new season.
