Peryra Diaz brace in comfortable Bengaluru FC opening win in the 133rd IndianOil Durand Cup

Former champions Bengaluru FC rode on first-half goals from Rahul Bheke and Sunil Chhetri, and a second-half brace by Jorge Peryra Diaz, to secure a 4-0 victory against the Indian Navy Football Team.

Tactical Moves and Lineups

Gerard Zaragoza, Bengaluru’s new Spanish manager, opted for a strategic approach, starting with a forward combination of Sivasakthi and Australian striker Ryan Williams, leaving veterans Sunil Chhetri and new recruit Jorge Peryra-Diaz on the bench. In contrast, the Navy’s Raman Rai fielded a tried-and-trusted eleven, benching last year’s captain Dalraj Singh.

First Half Dominance

Wearing their away red kits, Bengaluru FC capitalized on the absence of Dalraj, dominating the match from the onset. Sivasakthi had several chances early on, but it was the experienced Indian center-back Rahul Bheke who broke the deadlock. Bheke scored from an Alberto Noguera Ripoll corner, heading the ball past Navy goalkeeper Vishnu.

Zaragoza’s substitution strategy paid off as Sunil Chhetri, brought on in the first half, made an immediate impact by scoring a penalty. The penalty was awarded after Navy’s Navjot received a red card for a foul on Williams inside the box.

Continued Control in the Second Half

Despite Raman Rai introducing Dalraj in the second half, Bengaluru continued their dominance. The third goal came in the 80th minute when Peryra Diaz, assisted by Chhetri, headed the ball past Vishnu. Diaz then sealed the victory with his second goal in added time, converting a lobbed pass from Ripoll.
