Mumbai Ultras and Salsette FC set for MFA Independence Day Cup final showdown

The second day of the MFA Independence Day Cup 2024 saw quarterfinals and semifinals unfold with intense competition at the Neville D’Souza Ground.
Quarterfinal 1: Kopana FC vs ICL U-19
The day began with a tense battle between Kopana FC and ICL U-19. Neither team could break the deadlock during regular time, pushing the match into penalties. Kopana FC held their nerve, winning 3-2 in the shootout to secure a semifinal spot.
Quarterfinal 2: Mumbai Marines vs Regal Sports Foundation
Regal Sports Foundation, the newly promoted team, continued their impressive run by edging out Mumbai Marines in a nail-biting penalty shootout. The match ended 0-0 after regular time, but Regal Sports clinched it 7-6 on penalties, booking their place in the semifinals.
Quarterfinal 3: JMJ FC vs Mumbai Ultras
Mumbai Ultras displayed their dominance with a commanding 5-0 victory over JMJ FC. Joyson Chettiar led the charge with a brace, while Aman Jangid, Dhawal Tandel, and Devansh added to the tally, sending Ultras into the semifinals.
Quarterfinal 4: Salsette FC vs ROQS-DFA
Salsette FC secured a 1-0 victory over ROQS-DFA, thanks to an unfortunate own goal by ROQS-DFA’s Shiv Mihu. This win propelled Salsette FC into the semifinals.
Semifinal 1: Mumbai Ultras vs Kopana FC
In the first semifinal, Mumbai Ultras continued their impressive form, defeating Kopana FC 2-0. Joyson once again found the back of the net, and Soham’s second-half goal sealed Ultras’ place in the final.
Semifinal 2: Salsette FC vs Regal Sports Foundation
Salsette FC faced Regal Sports Foundation in the second semifinal. Despite an early scare, Salsette’s No. 10 scored the decisive goal in the 34th minute, securing a 1-0 victory and a spot in the final.
The stage is now set for a thrilling final between Mumbai Ultras and Salsette FC. Both teams have shown remarkable consistency and skill.
