MFA Super League playoff: Ahaan Sharma, Kaif shine as Mumbai City FC U19 trump Bombay Gymkhana 4-1

Ahaan Sharma, Kaif shine as Mumbai City FC (U19) trump Bombay Gymkhana 4-1

Ahaan Sharma shines with a brace, while Mohd Kaif and Mangthenial each secure a goal in an exhilarating showdown against Bombay Gymkhana. Mumbai City FC effortlessly clinches a 4-1 victory, solidifying their commendable position in the playoffs group.

As the two contenders took the field, riding high on their recent victories against Somaiya FC, where each team netted four goals, the stage was set for an intriguing clash. With both squads eager to capitalize on their momentum, anticipation for an enthralling match loomed large.

In the early moments, Mumbai City FC capitalized on a setpiece, as Mohd Kaif connected flawlessly with an inch-perfect header from a corner, providing them with a robust start. Ahan Sharma then rose to the occasion, securing a great finish in the 8th minute to extend Mumbai City FC’s lead. Despite Bombay Gymkhana’s attempts to stage a comeback, Arsh, the left back of Mumbai City Fc, stood tall, denying Ali’s effort by clearing the ball off the goal line.

With a commendable 2-0 lead, Mumbai City FC entered halftime, leaving Bombay Gymkhana with work to do in the second half.

As anticipated, Bombay Gymkhana showed resilience at the beginning of the second half in their pursuit of a goal. Their recent hero delivered once again, securing a perfect strike and finding the net in the 52nd minute.

Mumbai roared back with substitute Eshaan Sarpate playing a key role in the next two goals. Ahaan Sharma, continued his scoring spree, notching his brace in the 58th minute after a brilliant ball from Eshaan in a counter attacking move. In the 75th minute, Eshan found Mangthenial on the right wing, the latter than dribbled past couple of defenders before slotting the ball into the net to make it 4-1.

Despite Bombay Gymkhana’s efforts to mount a comeback, Mumbai City FC’s resolute defense, led by Tanush Pandey, Arsh, Mohd Kaif, and skipper Nikhil Shinde, held firm. The final whistle blew, sealing a convincing 4-1 victory in favor of Mumbai City FC.

With two consecutive thrilling 4-1 victories, Mumbai City FC’s dynamic squad emerges as top contenders for the playoffs, boasting 2 wins in 2 games with 8 goals scored and only 2 conceded. Their next challenge awaits against IoT FC on Thursday afternoon. Meanwhile, Bombay Gymkhana, with 1 win, 1 draw, and 1 loss, aims to finish the playoffs strongly, facing teams like IoT FC and Oranje FC.
