I-League 2: Maharashtra Oranje FC debuts with a thrilling 2-2 draw against Dempo SC

A rollercoaster debut for Maharashtra Oranje FC as they showcase dominance, resilience, and a penalty drama, securing a 2-2 draw against Dempo SC in their inaugural I-League 2nd Division match
The first half saw Maharashtra Oranje FC dominating possession with nimble footwork and quick passing that troubled Dempo SC. A well-placed free-kick by Rinaldo tested Dempo’s goalkeeper, Wellyster Mendes, who made a crucial save. The turning point came when Sanchit earned a penalty for Oranje, converting it into the team’s first goal of the campaign.
As the first half progressed, Maharashtra Oranje FC maintained impressive possession and solid ball recovery, while Dempo SC struggled to breach their defense. The halftime whistle blew with Oranje holding a 1-0 lead.
The second half witnessed a tactical shift as Oranje played defensively, inviting Dempo SC to press forward in search of an equalizer. The deadlock was broken ten minutes into the second half when Sanwil Dcosta scored a stunning goal for Dempo SC with a powerful strike from outside the box.
Oranje responded with determination, and Kuivao’s precise finish from a lofted pass restored their lead, making it 2-1. However, Dempo SC showcased resilience, making relentless attempts on goal. In the 86th minute, a collision between Oranje’s keeper, Mukunthan, and Vasim resulted in the referee awarding a penalty for Dempo SC. Basanta Singh stepped up and calmly equalized, securing a 2-2 draw.
Both teams continued their pursuit of a winning goal in the dying minutes, but the final whistle signaled the end of an exhilarating encounter.
