The 77th edition of the Santosh Trophy witnessed Manipur edging past Maharashtra 2-1 in closely contested game

Manipur initiated the kickoff, setting the tone for an energetic encounter. In the early minutes, N. Pacha’s shot near the penalty area narrowly missed the post, creating an early suspense in the game. Maharashtra took the lead in the 13th minute when Satish delivered a precise cross, and Azfar Noorani’s header found the back of the net.

W. Sadananda Singh attempted a powerful shot from 20 yards, but Maharashtra’s goalkeeper, Malhar Mohol, made a remarkable save. Manipur, determined to equalize, saw success when Maibam Singh’s outswinging ball from the corner found Rojen Meetei, leveling the score at 1-1 before the first half concluded. Manipur dominated the first half making numerous attemps on Maharashtra’s defense.

The second half unfolded with both teams maintaining the unwavering energy, creating thrilling moments. Pebam Renedy had a close call that nearly turned into a goal, keeping spectators at the edge of their seats. Sanathoy’s well-controlled balls and threatened Maharashtra’s defense ample times.

In the dying minutes, Kabiraj Singh left the onlookers in awe with a spectacular goal from a considerable distance, securing Manipur’s victory. Despite Maharashtra’s relentless attacks, Manipur’s defense held firm, clinching a well-deserved win and leaving Maharashtra in dismay.

With this victory, Manipur surged up to the top of the table in the group B while Maharashtra moves to 2nd
