MFA Super League: Thrilling draw between Bombay Gymkhana and Young Guns FA
A Tale of two halves as Bombay Gymkhana took on Young Guns FA (Rhema) in a thrilling MFA Super League contest that ended in a 1-1 draw.
The first half of the game was dominated by Bombay Gymkhana, who exhibited exceptional teamwork and precision. Anas Vadgama was in fine form, creating a scoring opportunity early on by setting up Harmeet in the box. Harmeet’s cross, however, couldn’t find a recipient.
Another moment of brilliance came from Kazi, who launched a spectacular volley from the halfway line, setting up Vishal on the right wing. Vishal’s dangerous cross was blocked by the Young Guns FA (Rhema) goalkeeper Shivam Joshi, denying Bombay Gymkhana yet again.
As the half progressed, Kazi’s long ball found their striker Anas, who made a darting run into the box. Anas was brought down in a controversial challenge, leading to passionate appeals for a penalty, but the referee remained unmoved.
Kazi’s relentless efforts continued as moments later he dribbled past multiple defenders but couldn’t find the crucial pass to Anas. It wasn’t until a well-executed corner that Bombay Gymkhana finally broke the deadlock. Harmeet’s precision met Ali’s head, and the ball found the back of the net with a slight deflection from a Young Guns defender.
The first half concluded with a scoreline of 1-0 in favor of Bombay Gymkhana, who displayed dominant play and control.
The second half began with renewed vigor, and Young Guns FA (Rhema) showed a resurgence in their attacking efforts. Full back Amitesh Koderi made a brilliant run forward into the box but was thwarted by a superb save from the Bombay Gymkhana keeper Ranjeev Carvalho. Sameer Sawant also tried his luck from a distance, but the keeper remained resolute.
A notable moment came as Bombay Gymkhana’s Cyrus Karbhari set up Singh on the right wing, and his shot was saved, with Hemang Jadhav making a goal-line clearance to keep Young Guns in the game. Throughout the game, Young Guns’s Sharvan Phansikar exhibited excellent control in the midfield, proving to be a shining star.
Young Guns FA (Rhema) eventually found a lifeline with a penalty awarded after a foul on Sharvan. Gaurang Shinde confidently stepped up and converted, equalizing the score.
In the closing moments, both teams had opportunities to snatch victory. Young Guns FA (Rhema FC) midfielder Sharvan tried to chip the keeper, but his shot went just wide, and this was followed by another chance from the wings that missed its mark. The match eventually ended In a 1-1 draw.
