As the Mumbai Super League Group B reaches a crucial juncture, the battle for the top two spots intensifies. Let’s delve into the standings and performances of the teams in this fiercely contested group.

Top four contenders for playoff round:

1. Maharashtra Oranje FC (U23): Despite a slow start, Oranje has surged to the top with a commendable six-game unbeaten streak. Spearheaded by top scorer Egan Fernandes, with 7 goals, and supported by Rahul Unnithan’s contributions, the team looks poised for a strong finish. Goalkeeper Raaquib Merchant has also been pivotal in their turn of form with three clean sheets in last four games.

2. Somaiya FC: The only unbeaten team in the group, Somaiya FC sits closely behind Oranje with a game in hand. Mandar Palav, with 9 goals, and Akash Kareparembil have been standout performers, contributing significantly to Somaiya’s impressive goal difference.

3. KSA Juniors: With a solid performance so far, KSA Juniors are in the mix for the playoff spots. Krishna Kamble and Srinath Rathod, with 6 and 5 goals respectively, have been instrumental. However, a tough run of upcoming games will test their mettle.

4. Iron Born FC (U19): Placed fourth, Iron Born FC has shown promise, but challenging fixtures against the top three teams remain. The team’s fate in the playoffs depends on navigating these tough encounters successfully.

Midtable Challengers:

In the midtable, India Rush SC has positioned themselves for a strong finish after a sluggish start, their campaign has picked pace with few wins in last few games. On the other hand, after a promising start, Mumbai Marines FC are on a six-game winless streak, impacting their playoff aspirations. Both teams will look to picks few wins and end the campaign on high.

Kopana FC (WC), has seemingly exceeded expectations, although they have played few draws too many forcing them out of the playoff race. Kopana has shown resilience with commendable draws against five of the six teams above them at the top of the table. Key players like Mitesh Suryavanchi and Rohan Giri have been crucial. At 8th spot in the league table, Salsette FC aims to make an impact in the remaining fixtures, striving for an ascent in the standings.

Lower Order battle:

In the lower order of the table, Young Boys FC, CFCI (U23), ICL Youngstars FC, face distinct challenges. While Young Boys FC seeks to convert draws into wins, the other teams are striving for improvement in the latter stages to avoid relegation. All of them have struggled to pick up enough wins in the campaign. Meanwhile, Millat FC (B) which is a reserve players team has played out all its matches and has confirmed the wooden spoon for themselves having failed to pick up single point in the campaign.

As the league unfolds, the battles intensify for the playoff round. With unpredictable outcomes and intense competition, Group B promises an exciting conclusion to the Mumbai Super League.
