Chennaiyin FC continues to shine brightly in the Durand Cup 2023, securing another impressive victory with a 2-1 win over Delhi FC in their final Group E encounter held in Guwahati on Friday.

The Marina Machans asserted their authority as they clinched nine out of nine points in their group, emerging as the sole team to achieve this feat with an unblemished record.

The match showcased the prowess of Rafael Crivellaro (38’) and Vincy Barretto (51’), who each found the back of the net for the Chennaiyin side.

Having already secured a spot in the quarter-finals, Chennaiyin FC aimed to maintain their winning momentum as the tournament progressed into its critical phase.

The early stages of the match witnessed a cautious approach from both teams, with each side probing the other’s defense. However, goals were elusive in the opening portion of the first half. It was Crivellaro who eventually broke the deadlock in the 38th minute, showcasing his skill as he received a pass from Sangwan. Skillfully dribbling past two defenders, he slotted the ball low into the left corner of the Delhi FC goal.

Barretto swiftly followed suit, finding the net shortly after the second half commenced. An assist from Sachu Siby enabled Barretto to beat the goalkeeper with a well-placed low strike.

Delhi FC, however, displayed their resilience as Gassama managed to score just three minutes after Barretto’s goal, putting them on the scoreboard. Chennaiyin FC came close to extending their lead when Romario Jesuraj received a pass from Crivellaro, but the keeper thwarted Jesuraj’s on-target shot. Despite this, the victory further solidified Chennaiyin’s dominance in Group E.

As the Durand Cup journey progresses, Chennaiyin FC’s exceptional performance continues to capture attention, positioning them as a formidable force in the tournament. With their triumphant run in the group stage, the Marina Machans are set to approach the quarter-finals with confidence, aiming to continue their winning streak and make their mark on this prestigious competition
