Ambernath Utd – Atlanta FC edge Bombay Muslims; Millat, Century Rayon pick wins

First-half strikes from Himanshu Patil and Vijith Shetty take it home for Ambernath Utd – Atlanta FC as they complete 11th win in a row.

Managed by former India International Steven Dias, Ambernath Utd – Atlanta FC are showing no signs of complacency as they beat Bombay Muslims SC 2-1 to continue their winning streak, extending it to eleven games.

AUA FC started out in a similar fashion to their previous game, taking charge of the ball possession and moving the game around. It didn’t take them long to find the net, when in the 19th minute, Aaron sent in a low cross past the BMSC defense line, skipper Himanshu Patil managed to get free of his marker before tapping the ball past the keeper and into the net to make it 1-0.

With a 1-0 lead, AUA FC continued to press further for more goals. While Bombay Muslims looked well adept in dealing with the attack, the pressure soon got to them as they conceded an indirect free-kick inside the box in the 35th minute. Veteran Midfielder Vijith Shetty stepped up on the ball before sending in a delicious curler from a tight angle that beat the diving keeper to nestle into the far post corner of the net. A wonderful strike that was reminiscent of the Toni Kroos goal for Germany against Sweden in the 2018 World Cup.

Both sides entered the break with AUA FC in a comfortable 2-0 lead. On the restart, Bombay Muslims came out with renewed vigor to fight back and as they tried to take control of the game. They were soon rewarded when their skipper Tomas Gomes led from the front to find the net in the 52nd minute to pull things back. With scores 2-1, still, in favor of his team, Coach Steven ringed in a series of changes to try out his subs. Both sides started to play end-to-end football but neither managed to find any further goals as the game ended 2-1.
