Mumbai City sign Jackie in a swipe deal for Farukh

The Hero Indian Super League table-toppers Mumbai City FC have confirmed the signing of Jackichand Singh in place of Farukh Choudhary on Saturday, January 23.

The Manipuri winger had previously played for the Islanders in the third season of the Hero Indian Super League. Jackichand has signed the deal for a two-and-a-half-year contract. He appeared for all the 12 games for Jamshedpur FC this season. Formerly Singh had also played for Pune City FC, Kerala Blasters and FC Goa in the Hero ISL.

Having previously played for Sergio Lobera when he was at FC Goa, the 28-year-old will find it easier to adapt to his methodologies. Speaking about the transfer deal, Mumbai City FC Head Coach Sergio Lobera said “Jacki is a very good player. He is aware of our philosophy and I am certain it won’t take him long to adapt to our style of play and settle in with his new family. We are happy that he’s back at Mumbai City. He will be a valuable addition to our squad and we hope he can hit the ground running.”

To this Jackichand also said, “I’m thrilled to be back at Mumbai City FC. I am thankful to the management for giving me this opportunity to return to this big club and to work again with coach Sergio Lobera. I am acquainted with his philosophy; his style of play and I am aware of what he expects from me I am also delighted to be playing again for the most amazing fans who gave me a lot of love when I was here a few years ago. I can’t wait to get going with my teammates and contribute to our collective ambitions.”

Farukh Choudhary makes a return to his former club after this deal went through. The young gun has signed the contract until the summer of 2023.

After being signed by Mumbai this season, He clocked 5 appearances. In the last season, Farukh made 47 club appearances for Jamshedpur FC. In regards to this signing, Owen Coyle, the Head Coach of Jamshedpur FC said “Farukh is a fantastic player with scope to develop even further. He is already a National team player and has pace and the ability to both create and score goals. He is an outstanding addition to our squad. He will help us immediately to challenge for the coveted playoff positions and long term build a team that will be challenging for honours yearly.”

To these profound words by the coach, the young lad replied “Jamshedpur FC is like home to me and I am happy to be back here. I spent 3 amazing years with the club. The coach’s trust in me was one of the biggest factors to join back the squad, and I hope to give my best to help the team qualify for the playoffs.”

The new signing will see Farukh donning Jersey No. 77 this season and Jackichand will be wearing jersey No. 20 for Mumbai City FC.

Presently Mumbai City FC has comfortably put themselves at the top of the table with 29 points. On the other hand, Jamshedpur FC is at the 9th position with 13 points trying to make their way to the playoffs.
