MFA Women’s League: PIFA and Kenkre qualify for Semi-final

Mumbai: The final matchday of league fixtures concluded with PIFA and Kenkre making their way into the Semi-final of the MFA Women’s League 2021. 

In the opening encounter, Kenkre FC edged past South Mumbai United by a solitary goal. After a goalless first half, Nabam Kamyi broke the deadlock at the 50th minute, which eventually remained the difference between both ends. Post 5 games, Kenkre gained 10 points and qualified to the semi-final placed 2nd in the Group-B table.

Soccer XI ended their campaign on a high scripting a noteworthy win against Companeroes. Aliza Sayyed of Companeroes drew the first blood for Companeroes at the 16th minute. Trailing by a goal at the first half, Soccer XI made a comeback in the 37th minute through Priyanka Arihao’s effort. Building momentum on the equalizer, Valencia D’mello scored another goal at the 44th minute to put immense pressure on their opponents. With sturdy defence, Soccer XI maintained the lead and ended their campaign being placed at the 3rd position with 9 points from 5 games.

PIFA continued their winning streak with a convincing 3 goal win against FC Mumbaikars. Goals from Namrata Thakur, Sasmita Behera and Badarisha Kharumnuid helped PIFA gain a comprehensive win to top Group-B and book a slot in the Semi-final. PIFA qualified as table leaders with 13 points from 5 games.

Kenkre will lock horns against Footie First whereas PIFA plays India Rush in the Semi-final of MFA Women’s League on 25th March, at the Cooperage Stadium.
