Hero Futsal Championship Day 3: Mohammedan SC, Bengaluru FC secure top spots in respective group

Mohammedan SC edge Super Strikers to top group A table while Bengaluru FC breeze past Speed Force FC to secure Group B top spot.
Youngster Rui Carlo secures huge win for Mohammedan SC
With both teams locked at three points after the first round, this clash was vital for either team’s chances to qualify for the semi-finals. Mohammedan SC rose up to the challenge to seal a 4-3 win over Super Strikers FC. Thanks to the win, the Black Panthers are now favorites to book their place in the semi-final of the maiden edition of the Hero Futsal Club Championship.
Super Strikers were coming into this game after a tightly-contested victory against Chanmari Zothan. Mohammedan SC was always going to prove a big challenge for them, and they showed it by opening the scoring in the third minute via Sandesh Malpote.
Super Strikers kept on pushing after that goal and got their reward as well. Surya and Vijay R scored in the 13th and 15th minutes respectively, putting the side from Bengaluru into the lead which they took into the break.
After the changeover, Mohammedan SC came out with renewed vigour and scored minutes into the second half, as Sachin Patil equalized and put his side back on level terms. Sachin then scored his second goal of the game, to secure a slender lead for the Kolkata-based side. Super Strikers responded in their own manner as well, with Surya U K scoring his second goal of the game to level the scores for the third time in the game.
Things got a bit heated after that goal, as the referee flashed yellow cards for Sherman Vaz and Joshuah Vaz from Mohammedan SC, and Surya U K from Super Strikers FC. Finally, in the dying moments of the game, 15-year old Rui Carlo rose to the occasion as he scored the winner and secured a significant win for Mohammedan SC.
After this match, Mohammedan SC moves atop the table in group A and is odds-on to qualify for the next round. Chanmari Zothan and Super Strikers FC still have an outside shout provided other results go in their favour.
Bengaluru FC go top of the table in Group B as they cruise past Speedforce FC
After a narrow victory against Sporting Clube de Goa in their first match of the Hero Futsal Club Championship, tonight Bengaluru FC beat Speedforce FC in comprehensive fashion to put themselves in pole position for semi-final qualification.
The match started at a slower pace than usual, with Speedforce FC and Bengaluru FC not looking to go for an over-attacking approach. Bengaluru FC opened the scoring in the match after a wonderful team move resulted in a goal for Louis Nickson. Manish Chaudhary scored another superb goal as he shrugged off the defender with his strength and powered a shot home into the top left corner.
Bengaluru FC managed to carry their 2-goal advantage into the break, and once proceedings resumed, they scored another one immediately with Vinith Venkatesh getting on the scoresheet. Speedforce FC, to their credit, refused to accept defeat. Zubair Bin Sultan pulled one goal back and Jawaad Hussain scored another just before the 30th-minute mark to bring down the gap to one goal once again.
In the last 10 minutes of the game though, it was all Bengaluru FC. They scored 6 goals in that time, with Vinith and Manish bagging another goal each, and Robin Yadav, Lalremtluanga, Omega and Bekey Oram the other goalscorers.
The goals conceded by Speedforce FC in the last 10 minutes might come back to bite them, while for Bengaluru FC it is the cherry on the top with things so tight in the tournament. The last group game for Bengaluru FC will be against Kuppuraj FC, while Speedforce FC will come up against SC Goa.
