AIFF postpone Indian Women’s League due to resurgence of COVID-19 cases

Based on request and discussion with Odisha Sports over the rising number of COVID-19 cases in the state and adhering to the COVID-19 guidelines of the Government of Odisha along with keeping in mind the safety and security of the players and officials, the Hero Indian Women’s League scheduled to be held in Odisha later this month has been postponed until further notice.

The AIFF along with Odisha Sports and the participating teams will be taking a stock of the situation once the health parameters improve. The All India Football Federation became the first national sports governing body in India to resume sports under a bio-bubble last year in October post the pandemic hit the country.

The 2nd Division League or the I-League Qualifiers which happened at centralized venues in Kolkata was the first sports league to resume in India. Matters seemed to fall in place with the COVID-19 curve noting a steep slowdown. Tournaments such as the Indian Super League, I-League happened under a bio-bubble in centralized venues.

Currently, the Indian Women’s League Qualifiers kicked off on multiple regions. The West Zone Qualifiers in Maharashtra which was happening from 1st-14th April under the governance of the Western India Football Association also got postponed until further notice due to the strict lockdown reforms in Maharashtra until 30th April.
