WIFA Inter District Open Men’s Championship: Mumbai, Pune win big to qualify for RO16s
4th February, Kolhapur: The 3rd day of the WIFA Inter-District Open Men’s Championship witnessed huge scorelines, nail-biting moments, and robust football. Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad, Solapur, Amravati, Beed, Parabhani and Dhule emerged triumphant to qualify for the next round.
The opening game of the day hosted Dhule against Bhandara. Dhule eased past Bhandara by scoring 4 goals against them. Ankush and Vipul scored at the 25th and 30th minute to give them a two-goal lead at the half time. Manish and Tejas found the net in the second half to hand a comfortable win to Dhule.
Parabhani played out a comprehensive win by scoring 3 goals against Nandurbar. Khaja Nayeem opened the scoring for Parabhani at the 14th minute. His only goal was the difference between both sides at the end of the first half. Khaja completed his brace at the second half as he immediately scored at the 48th minute to double the lead. Abdul scored the third goal at the 72nd minute after which Nandurbar scored a consolation goal through Kunal’s efforts at the 77th minute.
On the next encounter of the day, Mumbai played out a five-star performance against Washim. Sanchit Singh opened the scoring for Mumbai at the 7th minute. Rishikesh increased the lead at the 36th minute. Mumbai was up by 2 goals at the half time. As the second half commenced, Aman Gaikwad increased the lead at the 50th minute. Following him, Rosenberg scored the fourth goal at the 56th minute. Scott put the final nail to the coffin at the 76th minute to win by a huge margin.
A hard fought battle between Beed and Nashik saw the former win eventually. Virendra gave an early lead to Beed at the 20th minute. Nashik replied within a few minutes, as Shubham equalized. The first half ended as a draw. The second half kicked off to witness a rejuvenated Beed side thump 3 goals past Nashik. Akshay, Shaikh and Sayed registered a goal each to give Beed a comfortable lead. Nashik scored a consolation goal at the fag end of the match through Subham’s effort.
Amravati cruised to a memorable victory against Gadchiroli as they scored half a dozen past them. Pratish, Amit, and Anuruddha scored in the first half to give Amravati a cosy lead after the initial 45 minutes. The second half kicked off only to see Amravati increase their lead and scored three more goals through Faizan, Chinmay, and Sarthak’s efforts.
Solapur qualified to the next round after they scored a brace against Satara. Nihal and Ashwin scored consecutively at the 34th and the 35th minute. After scoring two goals in the first half, the Solapur defence stayed robust and romped to a laudable victory against Satara.
Aurangabad vanquished Akola in the next fixture by a big margin of four goals. After a dull first half, which ended as a goalless draw, Aurangabad’s players went on to score four goals in the second half. Sk, Abdul, Vishal and Ibrahmuddin contributed in the second half to clinch a praiseworthy victory against Akola.
A dominant Pune side crippled Jalana after they scored 11 goals past them to qualify for the Round of 16s. Pune netted 5 goals in the first half in which Sufiyan Shaikh starred with a hat-trick. The other two goals were scored by Saurabh and Glean. After crushing Jalana’s qualification hopes completely, Pune did not seem content. They scored half a dozen more in the second half. Sufiyan went on to score another two goals, increasing his scoring tally to 5 for the day. The other 4 goals were netted by Kurmendra and Bevin, who scored a brace each.
