PIFA Foundation raise 1.4 lakhs in 2 days to provide rations to the underprivileged
With the world pandemic presiding and endangering over more than 200+ nations, it is important now more than ever for each community to work in coalition.
The only way to fight the Novel Coronavirus is to restrict people from unnecessary social gatherings. To follow the procedure, millions have failed to put bread on the plate and faced fatal consequences during the process. During this turbulent time, it is the responsibility of each community to come together and work towards the solitary goal to get the better of the unknown entity.

PIFA Sports Club, one of the finest football organisations in Mumbai have united to battle against the Coronavirus. Within two days, the PIFA Foundation ran a fundraiser which collected a sum of 1,50,000 INR. With this fund, PIFA was able to provide dry rations to 70 underprivileged families and distribute cooked meals to around 700 individuals in the Colaba area. PIFA has decided to continue with the noble initiative and carry on creating funds to support the needy in the upcoming days until the situation comes to normalcy.
The rising pandemic has also had a dire impact on the entire sports community. With the cancellation of the Tokyo Olympics and other large scale sporting events, the entire sports industry is at a standstill and left crumbled. As a sports entity, to lift the spirits, PIFA initiated a concept termed as ”PIFA Lockdown Cup” to encourage the entire football community. The league is a first of its kind online tournament which is envisioned to keep the community engaged. As quoted by Mrs Anjali Shah (Founder – PIFA Sports Clubs), the entire initiative is attempted to gather and encourage the football community.
“The PIFA Lockdown League is an attempt to keep football players engaged constructively during these difficult times. Football being mainly physical makes it even more difficult for the players to not do anything during this period” – Anjali Shah
Mrs Shah firmly believes that it is important to keep oneself engaged during such a situation. She reiterated the importance of motivation which creates a big impact on a person’s life, be it on the sporting field or handling a pandemic.
“I have noticed that motivation plays a very important role in the psyche of the players. Lots of players are looking for easy shortcuts even now when there is nothing much to do. The ones who will push themselves to remain motivated in these times will be the players to look out for in the future. Practice can make you perfect” – Anjali Shah
The PIFA Lockdown Cup will challenge its participants both mentally and physically by the means of scheduling unique tasks. Apart from engaging in football-related tasks, the league is attempted to inform the people how the virus spreads, how it can be contained, and how to help the people in need. Each day people are presented with a set of challenges which are to be performed and posted over Instagram tagging the PIFALockdownCup handle. The PIFA Lockdown Challenge also conducts quiz competitions related to the management and history of world football.
“I would like to urge all those who are getting complacent to get out of your comfort zones and get fit and get active in the safety and security of your homes. If nothing else, make videos about how everyone can save themselves by social distancing, washing hands regularly, wearing a mask and helping those in need. Publish these videos through social media so India can collectively flatten the curve” – Anjali Shah
The response for the same has been encouraging as the initiative has spread nationwide. Teams from Nagaland, Chennai, Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi have started to take part.
