MDFA Asst. Secretary Salim Ansari departs for his heavenly abode

A mournful morning for the entire Mumbai football fraternity as MDFA Assistant Secretary Shri Salim Ansari left us for his eternal sojourn.

After a series of brief disturbances in health, the illness got the better of Mumbai football’s guiding light. Back in his time, Mr Salim had a glittering football career representing Maharashtra as their Goalkeeper. Later on, with his capabilities and recognition in the sport, he took up a job at Reserve Bank of India.

Mr Ansari served the game picking up roles in football administration and coaching in his later years. He was the Assistant Secretary of the Mumbai District Football Association and the Head Coach of one of the oldest football clubs in Mumbai – Bombay Muslims FC.

“I’m shocked. It is difficult to believe that our great friend, ex-State player and above all the Assistant Secretary of MDFA has left us for his heavenly abode today after a brief illness. He was a person involved in football. He was the livewire of very old and reputed football club Bombay Muslim. He worked with me very closely in MDFA in different sub-committees. A very jovial and decent person. It’s an irreparable loss to his family. MDFA dips its flag as a mark of respect to his departed soul. Pray to Almighty to give fortitude to his family to overcome the irreparable loss suffered by them. May His Soul Rest In Peace” quoted Udayan Banerjee, Hon. Treasurer of MDFA.

Apart from being involved with the players and the coaches, Mr Ansari was an advocate of the betterment of referees in the state. He supported the concerned associations and imparted his knowledge and expertise to the fresh joiners.

“Great loss to Maharashtra and Mumbai football. Mr Ansari had always been a strong supporter of the Bombay Referees Association. It is shocking news. Such a jolly and active personality leaving us is a huge loss to the entire fraternity. May his soul rest in peace. Amen.” said Mr Walter Pereira, Ex FIFA Referee, AIFF Match Commissioner and Referee Assessor/Examiner.

The entire Mumbai football fraternity lost one of its best leaders this morning!
