India Khelo Football: Mumbai Phase 2nd leg sees Ambitious lift title again, CFCI finish runner-up

Ambitious continue dominance in Mumbai phase with another title triumph in leg 2 held at Super Sport Park, Kurla. An impressive CFCI came close but could not upset tournament favorites as they finished runners up.

India Khelo football complete its Leg two of Mumbai Phase with Ambitious like in Leg 1 in Mulund, once again going on to lift the trophy at Kurla. The grassroots football initiative aims at finding young upcoming talents and providing them the platform to become a successful professional player.

The day began with CFCI, Ambitious A and B and Golazo Football Academy steamrolling their opponents all the way to the semi-final. In the first semi-final, Ambitious A was pitched against their ‘B’ team. Coach Shahid Qureshi asked his players to go all out irrespective of the opponents as Ambitious ‘B’ rode on their inform striker Hussain Bhatt’s goal scoring streak to outclass the Ambitious ‘A’ side 9-0.

Meanwhile in the 2nd semi-final, CFCI showed excellent grit and determination to come from a goal down and beat Golazo FA 3-1. After conceding what could have been an avoidable goal, CFCI came back strongly in the second half to immediately equalize. Moments later, CFCI capitalized on a miscommunication between goalkeeper and defender to take the lead before scoring third in final minutes to qualify for the finals in front of some rasping cheers from the parents in attendance.

In the finals, the superior physicality of strikers coupled with smart work from a young Manav Ponolo meant Ambitious scoring a dozen within first half. CFCI once again came out strong early in the 2nd half, scoring 2 quick fire goals courtesy of some brilliant striking from Pratham. However, Ambitious recovered back to add two more to the tally to go onto win the game 7-2.

Former Maharashtra State team player Shailesh Jadhav was in attendance during the final while Zakir Hussain Khan and Shanawaz Shaikh founders of Mumbai based NGO Red Boys Foundation alongside Rohan Shinde, Team manager of six Mumbai based clubs were some of the few dignitaries among the audiences.
