Gaurav Mukhi omitted from Jamshedpur first team squad

Gaurav Mukhi, who was recently brought in to the first team after serving his six month suspension for age fraud, has been once again omitted from first team squad on disciplinary grounds

The Jamshedpur boss confirmed that he has removed Gourav Mukhi from the first-team squad on disciplinary grounds. “We were aware of his past. We gave him another opportunity to behave as a professional player. But he is not behaving like a professional players, he is not resting enough, not getting enough sleep.”

After completing his six month ban in September, Jamshedpur offered Gaurav another opportunity to prove his worth in their reserve side, where the striker would go on to score in his very first game. Impressed by his performance Gaurav was promoted to main team this January. Mukhi went on to play his first ISL game in 13 months on January 9 against Bengaluru FC, the same opposition against whom, he scored his maiden goal last year, the goal that would eventually kick up the age fraud controversy.

However it seems like the striker hasn’t lasted long as it is learned that the he has fell out of favors with his coach Antonio Iriondo. Having started the game in the team’s 2-0 loss at Bengaluru, Gaurav was not included in yesterday’s 3-2 win over Kerala Blasters with Sumit Passi starting ahead off the striker. the Coach then confirmed his omission in the post match conference, “He is not behaving like a professional players, he is not resting enough, not getting enough sleep. As a respect to other players and the team, he is now out of the team. He is out of the first-team squad. Now the club will make the decision,” said the 66-year-old manager.

Having omitted him from first team picture, Coach Iriondo has now left the decision on player’s future with the club management. It will be interesting to see whether the club management would follow its Coach’s decision or give the controversial striker another chance.
