Fan Voice – Gaur fans call for continuity in the squad after back to back losses

FC Goa were defeated 2-1 by Chennaiyin FC in a close encounter at the Fatorda Stadium in Margao, Goa. With that loss, the Gaurs have lost their second match in a row and dropped to the seventh spot in the ISL standings with 8 points from 7 matches.

After an early goal from Rafael Crivellaro, Jorge Ortiz Mendoza equalized for the Goan side with a thumping effort into the back of the net. However, Chennaiyin youngster Rahim Ali scored in the 53rd minute to seal the three points for the Marina Machans.

We spoke to some of the most ardent FC Goa supporters to get their thoughts on the FC Goa vs Chennaiyin FC match.

Savio Anthony Vaz, a member of the FC Goan Fan Club said that the head coach Juan Ferrando has not found his perfect starting eleven yet and the experiments are costing points for the side, “Frequent changes to the team in every match has impacted the way that the team is playing.”

Kunal Kunkolienkar of the East Lower Army also supported Savio and spoke about the starting eleven changes. “I would say that rather thinking about the future and making changes to the team every game to prevent any injuries doesn’t make much sense. There should be consistent playing 11. Brandon and Redeem should start on the wings. It’s 7 games into the season and it’s time we find a consistent playing 11.”

Some of the fans are of the opinion that a shortened pre-season and the rebuild of the squad could be a reason for the shaky start so far in the competition. “This year literally there was no preseason. Whereas other teams had the same core players and staff, Goa had to do a rebuild. Hence we are still in a state of finding the best 11” states Meblish Fernandes, a member of FC Goa Fan Club

Agreeing on the same, Suraj Subhash, a student adds, “The first seven matches have been a roller coaster ride, we saw wins, losses, decisions going against us and a lot of drama. At the start, it felt like there was a problem at the finishing but last match it was the defensive lapse which cost us the match. Lack of pre-season and the matches coming within 2-3 days are the main issue in my opinion. The league is not even half way down; I believe FC Goa will Rise Again and Rise Higher.”

Suraj also said that some of the Goan youngsters such as Princeton Rebello and Devendra Murgaonkar should be given opportunities this season. Meanwhile others feel Lenny should be starting every game, Saiel Naik from the East Lower Army stated, “Lenny is that underrated player, who covers the whole ground, we can see him in defence as well as in attack too. If lenny doesn’t start then defence looks open like it did today. He does not look like a key factor but he is actually.”

FC Goa are set to take on Jamshedpur FC in their next ISL fixture at the Tilak Maidan in Vasco, Goa as they aim to break the losing streak and rise higher in the standings.
