WIFA Women’s Football League: Samuel FA win big, Spark FC display commendable performance

In today’s WIFA Women’s Football League fixture, team Spark FC fielded 8 players against Pacangan FC. It was informed that Spark FC had an internal issue due to which the 18-player squad was unavailable.

However, Spark FC’s determination earned them a point as they clinched a draw after being a goal down. The first half saw Pacangan scoring their first goal through Snehal Ghadge strike at the 21st minute. The team maintained the lead and headed to the tunnel with a solitary goal lead at the half time.

The second half kicked off and Pacangan bounced back with an outstanding effort. As soon as the second half commenced, Rhea Deborah Rodrigues found the net within three minutes. “What happened on the field was just outstanding. We fielded 8 players due to their prior commitments. Some of them have gone to the India camp, and others have their exams.” said Manuel D’Souza, the Owner of Spark FC. The girls played out for the 90 minutes without having any substitutions.

Technically, Spark FC’s 8 players played against 14 players from the opposition as they utilized all their available substitutions. “I can’t ask more from the girls. Their determination, grit and willingness show how much effort they have put in today. Even if they would have lost the match, I had nothing to complain” quipped Manuel. These teams consist of players who are playing their first-ever 11-a-side competitive game, and the determination showed by the athletes just portrays the willingness and the dedication of the entire lot.

The second game of the day hosted Samuel Football Academy against Commandos FC where Samuel FA romped to a massive 9-1 victory. The captain and the player of the match, Mhasi Khonuo Paunuo ran the show as she thumped 4 goals past Commandos FC. Samuel FA consists of players from different nooks and corners of the country out of which Mhasi is from Nagaland. She opened the scoresheet for Samuel FA at the 21st minute and what followed next was mesmerizing to watch. The first half ended seeing Samuel FA lead by 4 goals. Commandos FA netted a consolation goal through a penalty via Harshada Kalbhor’s effort at the 43rd minute.

The second half started and Samuel FA went on to score 5 more goals. “I think we had a good start to the game. We played much better in the second half. Though we have brought in players from different parts of the country, within a short time they have bonded very quickly and I’m happy to see how the team performed today. We didn’t get enough time to train as I had many players coming a week earlier from the other states. So their performance is highly satisfactory to me”

We have three matches on 8th as Pacangan FC play Samuel FA, Commandos FC face South United FC and PIFA Colaba play Spark FC.
