Super Division: Jamal helps Railway snatch draw from jaws of defeat

Mumbai, February 21, 2019: Kashif Jamal did a one-man act as he helped Central Railway eke out a 3-3 draw against Springfield FA at the Neville D’Souza Ground on Thursday.

Railway grabbed a vital point as Padam Singh hit home in the 91st minute. They scored in the second minute through Jamal as they got off to a flyer. A classic smash and grab! Springfield was clueless to intelligent passing and build-up play by Railway in the first half.

They couldn’t extend their lead as Springfield held firm at the back and cleared off numerous attempts at goal. Sunny Amin made it 1-1 in the 12th minute with a poachers strike from inside the box.

Mervin Kurisingal cut inside two defenders from the right and smashed in a superb goal in the 16th minute. 2-1 and Springfield had roared back into the contest!

Amin almost made it 3-1 at the half-hour mark as his header went over the bar. Silvester Fernandes starred for Springfield with his excellent ball distribution and passing.

He threaded holes into the Railway defence with regularity and his game was a delight to watch!

Kurisingal was the dynamo as he harried Railways with feints and skillful dribbling. Springfield led 2-1 at half time thanks to clinical finishing. The second half was a different story as Springfield showed spunk and had more of the ball.

They went on the offensive as Kurisingal’s shot whizzed past the post on the hour mark. They roared back in style and created numerous chances in a bid to kill the game off.

Anup Singh curled in a brilliant freekick to the top right in the 73rd minute to make it 3-1. The goalkeeper had no chance! The persistence had paid off!

It was end-to-end action as Jamal hit home a spot-kick to the bottom right and gave Railway a lifeline. 3-2 in the 78th minute and the game went to a thrilling climax!

Springfield played on the counter as Railway poured forward for the all-important equalizer. Jamal missed a gilt-edged chance to equalize in the dying minutes which had heart-stopping action.

He beat a posse of defenders and set up Singh who smashed in an injury-time equalizer.

The 3-3 draw was a humdinger!
