Sparks FC defeats FSI to lift Women’s League title

14th April 2019, Mumbai: On Sunday evening, MDFA – Mumbai District Football Association Women’s League Final between Sparks FC and Football School of India (FSI) was played at the Neville D’Souza Ground, Bandra. Sparks FC held their nerves to lift the Women’s League title after getting the better of Football School of India (FSI) 1-0.

In what was an entertaining encounter, both the sides played their hearts out throughout the final which was a fitting testimony to the Women’s Football in Mumbai. Sparks FC was better in attack but that didn’t take away FSI’s resilient display at the back.

Defender Shruthilakshmi Ranjish stood out as the best defender on the pitch after saving FSI numerous times with her brilliant game-reading and top-notch man-marking. Shruthi’s heroics were later deceived by Sparks’ forward Sai Sankhe who broke the deadlock in the 44th-minute with a neat strike.

Sparks’ Goalkeeper Neha Samre made a handful of decent saves to keep her side ahead, whereas, Priyanka Pottekkat dictated the controlled the midfield with ease to supply Sparks’ attack for the majority of the match. Sparks defended their one-goal lead, in the end, to emerge as the Champions in what was a staggering campaign for Manuel D’Souza and Kuldeep’s side.
