SAFF U-15 Women’s Championship: India book berth in finals after vanquishing Bhutan by 10 goals

India booked their tickets to the finals of the SAFF U-15 Women’s Championship at the Chalimithang Stadium in Thimphu on Friday (October 11, 2019) as they vanquished hosts Bhutan 10-1.

The Maharashtrian prodigy Sai Sankhae ran the show as she scored a second-half hattrick. Lynda Kom Serto, Sumati Kumari and Kiran scored a brace each, while Priyanka Sujeesh scored a solitary goal to make it 10.

Since the commencement, India dominated thoroughly. During the early stages, Amisha found some space on the right flank, galloped into the box and played a through ball to Priyanka Sujeesh, who made no mistake to open the scoreline.

Bhutan equalised almost immediately. Sangay Wangmo equalized for them. Kiran restored the lead on the quarter-hour mark as she knuckled a swerving shot into the top corner. Lynda finished off a fine move before Kiran and Sumati added two more as the Indian team headed into the tunnel with a 5-1 lead at half-time.

India started the second half with the same intensity. Lynda scored her second goal of the game to make it six. After that, it was the Sai Sankhae show as the super-sub netted three goals in nine minutes. India’s scoring tally rose to nine before Sumati scored the 10th goal at the dying minutes.

With this win, India have sealed their spot in the final as they move on to six points. Meanwhile, Bangladesh beat Nepal 2-1 earlier on Friday to also book their place in the final.

In their next encounter, India is set to play against Bangladesh in the penultimate group-stage match on Sunday (October 13, 2019) at 2.30 pm IST. The match will be streamed live on mycujoo.tv.
