Sandesh Jhingan ruled out of India’s Match against Bangladesh

The AIFF, on Friday, September 15, 2023, announced that senior India player and key defender Sandesh Jhingan will be joining the Indian squad for the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

Defender Sandesh Jhingan has been ruled out of India’s forthcoming FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Qualifier against Bangladesh slated to be played at VYBK in Kolkata on October 15.

Sandesh Jhingan becomes the second defender to be ruled out for the Bangladesh tie after Rahul Bheke was earlier announced to be ruled out of the tie due to injury.

The Center Back had underwent an MRI today (October 10, 2019) morning and the reports indicates that he won’t get fit in time to play against Bangladesh. Sandesh, who sustained a knee injury during the recent practice match against Indian Super League side North East United FC, will reportedly miss the entire 2019-20 season for his Club Kerala Blasters too.

Initial report suggest the 26-year-old has twisted his knee in an off-the-ball incident, causing a rupture in his Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL). The defender could miss most if not all matches of the upcoming season for Kerala Blasters.

“Owing to an injury sustained in friendly game against @NEUtdFC, @SandeshJhingan has been ruled out from the forthcoming @FIFAWorldCup qualifier against Bangladesh on October 15. We wish him a speedy recovery,” the AIFF said in a tweet.

Jhingan played an instrumental role in India’s histpric draw against Asian Champions Qatar in their last qualifiers fixture. Coach Igor Stimac will aim to address the injury concerns at the earliest as Jhingan’s absence will a big setback for India after losing defensive midfielder Pronay Halder and Right Back Rahul Bheke to injuries.
