Customs blanks HDFC 2-0 in Elite Division

Mumbai Customs

19th February 2019, Mumbai: Last season’s Super Division Champions HDFC faced Mumbai Customs on Tuesday morning in the MDFA Elite Division (Corporate Group) fixture. In what was a disciplinary performance by Mumbai Customs, a goal each from Shubham Khanvilkar and Marc D’Souza proved enough to see off HDFC 2-0 at the Cooperage Stadium.

Throughout the game, Customs’ backline and midfield stood like a giant wall in front of HDFC as Julian D’Silva’s side struggled to penetrate into the final third. Experienced defender Hekmat Singh, Shubham Khanvilkar, Pawan Rawat, and Joshua Vessoakar, formed an impressive defense and kept HDFC attack at bay.

Hekmat man-marked Titus Uttankar out of the game as the latter wasn’t able to move the ball forward at all. In the midfield, Praneel Mendon and Rosenberg dictated the play and created several openings. It was in the 40th minute when Customs finally got their reward.

Praneel’s pinpoint free-kick was headed home by defender Shubham Khanvilar. Customs went into the break with a solitary lead. In the second half, the introduction of Ashirwad Hedge and Monish Bhamre also proved vital. The duo’s immense desire and energy was second to none.

In the 75th minute, Marc D’Souza sealed the game in style. Dhawal Waghela’s shot was parried by HDFC’s goalkeeper before Marc pounced on the loose ball to finish from close-range. A terrific display by Mumbai Customs who kept their heads high throughout the encounter.
