Clinical Century Rayon outclass Bank of Baroda 4-1

A second half brace from Shahbaz Khan along with a goal each from Thotcham and Zingshapam propel Century Rayon to comfortable 4-1 win over Bank of Baroda in an MDFA Elite Division encounter played out at Cooperage Stadium, Mumbai on Tuesday.

After a decent start in what later turned out to be a rather one sided game, It was Century Rayon, who drew first blood mid-way through the first half when some good work from the flanks saw the winger’s cutback beat an onrushing BOB goalkeeper giving Century’s Zingshapam lungling an open goal to score. At the other, Bank of Baroda failed to breach the Century defence with set-piece being the only threat they could work on. On one such occasion, Denzil’s attempted header went just over the bar.

On restart, Century Rayon once again started out well in search of the 2nd goal. Their efforts paid off when in the 68th minute, a through ball was latched on by Thotcham who drove ahead in to the box before placing it past the goal keeper to double the lead.

Shahbaz Khan soon joined the party when in the 81st minute his strike found the back of the net to make it 3-0. At the other end, Bank of Baroda were profligate in attack, missing out couple of 1-on-1 chances as Century’s substitute goalkeeper Narender Singh pulled out some really good saves. In the 85th minute, BOB finally found the breakthrough when Dhrumil Kakad’s attempted cross beat the keeper to end up in the net as the score stood 3-1.

However any chance of BOB revival was squashed off in the very next minute when Shahbaz Khan latched on to a mistake from BOB keeper to score his second of the day and 4th for Century Rayon. The game ended comfortably at 4-1 in favour of Century Rayon with BOB having lots to ponder about in the form of mistakes and missed chances.
