Womens COTIF Cup: India go down 1-4 to Spanish top division side Fundacion Albacete

The Indian Women’s National Team lost 1-4 against Fundacion Albacete in their first match of the COTIF Cup in Valencia, Spain on August 01, 2018.
Although the Indian Women took the lead in the 9th minute, the opponents absorbed the pressure, thwarted the Indians, seized the momentum in the midfield and eventually scored four times. The Indians were awarded a penalty in the 8th minute for a foul inside the box which was gleefully converted by 2017 AIFF Woman Player of the Year Kamala Devi.
The opening goal was followed couple of attempts by Indians on the Spanish premier division side. However, Fundacion Albacete held on to the pressure and slowly began to come back into the game. The lead did not last long as in the 29th minute, Fundacion Albacete drew level slotting past Indian goalkeeper Panthoi Chanu, whose faint touch slowed the ball but not enough to stop it rolling past the goal line.
Both teams headed into the break with the scores level however Fundacion Albacete came out with all guns blazing as they immediately doubled their lead in the 47th minute when they scored directly from a free-kick.
Around the hour mark another set-piece situation resulted in the Indians conceding the third goal. Five minutyes later, Albacete tripled the lead to complete the rout.
The Indian women next play Levante on August 3.
