Veniza Virar wins while Dias United holds Madanpura

31st December 2017, Mumbai: On New Year’s Eve, two matches were played in the MDFA – Mumbai District Football Association First Division, Veniza Virar played Dadar XI, whereas, BBC Dias United faced Madanpura SC at St. Xavier’s Ground, Parel.

Group E – Veniza Virar FC (Nitin Joseph 64′) 1-0 Dadar XI

On Sunday afternoon, Veniza Virar FC locked horns against Dadar XI in an anticipated First Division encounter. A goal in the 64th minute from Nitin Joseph gave Veniza Virar an important win to end their year on a positive note.

After a goalless first-half, the deadlock was broken when Nitin struck a thunderous shot in the back of the net which turned out to be the decisive goal. Dadar XI had their chances but their poor finishing cost them three points.

Group D – BBC Dias United (Cajetan Dias 26′ and Shreyash Kudale 52′) 2-2 Madanpura SC (Bhavesh Patel 31′ and Hitesh Vadnagra 43′)

In Group D, BBC Dias United played Madanpura SC in a four-goal thriller. Dias United had to rely on second-half’s performance to rescue a 2-2 draw at St. Xavier’s Ground, Parel.

Cajetan Dias opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a fine strike before Madanpura’s Bhavesh Patel and Hitesh Vadnagra scored within minutes to put Madanpura 2-1 in front. But Dias United had other plans. In the 52nd minute, Shreyash Kudale scored a sublime goal to salvage a draw for Dias United.
