ONGC thumps MS Police; go clear at the top

28th March 2018, Mumbai: Earlier today, ONGC (Oil & Natural Gas Corporation) thumped MS Police 4-0 at Mumbai Football Arena (Andheri) to go top of the MDFA Elite Division table for the first time this season. ONGC leapfrogged Air India who has played one game less. This win has further made the title race more interesting with only a couple of games left this season.

Due to suspension and injuries to some of the key players of MS Police, they didn’t have a single substitute on the bench. They had to play without making any change. Interestingly, ONGC played calmly and stayed relax for the majority part of the game which saw them combining, building, and exchanging many passes.

Midway through the first-half, ONGC opened the scoring through defender Ben who latched onto a loose ball to placed his effort in the back of the net. MS Police did create several chances but their poor finishing let them disappointed.

To kill the game in the first-half itself, ONGC pushed forward and doubled their lead just before the half-time. Enock Annan’s ball across the goal met Captain Lalmuanpuia who had an empty net in front of him. Just like any other capable leader, Lalmuanpuia made to mistake to bury his effort in the empty goal.

In the second-half, striker Kailash Pardhi almost pulled a goal back when his initial shot was cleared off the line by ONGC’s custodian. A few moments later, Enock made it 3-0 to put the game to bed. A cracking left-footed finish straight into the roof of the net.

The fourth and final goal was scored by Harkirat from close-range in the dying moments of the game. ONGC completed their eighth win of the season in nine games and they are currently two points ahead of Air India.
