Mumbai Strikers sails past MS Police 1-0

18th March 2018, Mumbai: Sunday evening saw a closely-contested game between MS Police and Mumbai Strikers in the Elite Division. The Strikers had to rely on a late goal which helped them secure a hard-fought 1-0 win over MS Police at Cooperage Stadium.

This crucial win has given Mumbai Strikers their second win of the season. With this victory, they have leapfrogged Kenkre FC, PIFA Colaba and as well as the relegation zone. Mumbai Strikers’ destiny is in their own hands now.

Talking about this game, MSP and Strikers struggled throughout the game, in terms of creating and finishing their chances. There were hardly any clear-cut opportunities in the first-half as both the outfits took their time to settle into the game. At the break, the score was locked at 0-0.

The second-half was more lively and happening. Mumbai Strikers’ Srinath Gite and Abhijeet Shetty played their hearts out and made things nervy for the Polices.

Midway through the second-half, MSP’s in-form striker Kailash Pardhi almost gave them the lead but his superb effort was denied by Goalkeeper Abhishek Singh. On the other end, it was Melron Mascarenhas’ introduction by Coach Sandeep Singh did the trick for Mumbai Strikers.

In the 83rd minute, Melron played a brilliant ball across the goal which was smartly executed by Abhijeet Shetty in the back of the net which finally broke the deadlock in the dying stages of the match.

Mumbai Strikers kept the possession for the rest of the ten minutes to seal an important victory in their quest for the survival. This result has surely boosted their confidence ahead of their remaining games.
