Mumbai City FC sign Raynier Fernandes

Mumbai City FC are looking to revamp their squad

Indian Super League outfit, Mumbai City FC have secured the services of young midfield maestro, Raynier Fernandes, Football Counter has learnt.

Mumbai City FC had a disappointing Indian Super League season, where they struggled to establish their dominance. The team lacked direction and was inconsistent throughout the tournament.

In the Super Cup, which pitted ISL clubs against I-League clubs, Mumbai City FC managed to secure a victory against a hard-fought Indian Arrows side, but they were edged out by East Bengal in their next clash.

However, they are determined to bounce back next season and have already signed few players. As part of further reinforcing their squad, they have managed to lure the services of Raynier Fernandes, who recently plied his trade for Mohun Bagan.

The Mumbai-born midfielder was one among the best Indian players in the recently concluded I-League. The defensive midfielder was dominant at the centre of the park and managed to orchestrate the play for Mohun Bagan, along with Cameroon Watson and Yuta Kinowaki.

In ISL 4, Mumbai City FC lacked a commanding force in the middle of the park and suffered its consequences. Sehnaj Singh didn’t make out what the situation warranted, while Zakeer did a decent job. As Kerala Blasters have signed Zakeer, Raynier will fill the void for the Mumbai-based ISL outfit.

Raynier started his professional football career with Air India in the Mumbai District Football Association’s Elite Division. He even represented Maharashtra in the Santosh Trophy, in 2016.
