FPAI awards: Sunil Chhetri bags ‘Indian Player of the Year’ award

Indian Football captain, Sunil Chhetri has been awarded the ‘Indian player of the year’ for his tremendous performances for both Indian National Team and Bengaluru FC.

Chhetri was crucial to Bengaluru FC in both the ISL and in the Super Cup. Chhetri wreaked havoc in the opposition half and bagged crucial goals to his name in the club football. He was also impressive and inspiring for Indian National team in the recently concluded Hero Intercontinental Cup, where he scored 8 goals from just 4 matches.

His Bengaluru FC teammate, Miku has won the ‘Foreign Player of the year’, for that commanding display for Bengaluru FC. The former Venezuelan International was destructive and effective for Bengaluru FC. He ripped defences apart and made vital contributions to Bengaluru FC.

Elsewhere, Albert Roca has bagged the ‘Coach of the year’ award. Under the tutelage of Roca, Bengaluru FC clinched the Hero Super Cup and finished as runners-up in the ISL Season 4.

Jerry Mawihmingthanga had a decent season for Jamshedpur FC in the ISL. The youngster was a regular in the Steve Coppell-coached side and managed to impress one and all with his sheer talent and hard work. For that, he has won the ‘Young Player of the Year’ award, beating the likes of Udanta Singh, Jerry Lalrinzuala, Anirudh Thapa, Lallianzuala Chhangte.

Neroca FC had a great I-League campaign and were in the race to clinch the coveted trophy until the last day. Subhash  Singh was integral to their performance and he has won the ‘Fans’ Player of the year’ award for that.
