Fifth edition of Orlem Super Cup begins

Orlem

The All Mumbai Inter-Parish tournament also known as Orlem Super Cup returns for its fifth edition as the tournament begins on the 1st of March

Orlem

In a city which has just one representative club in the top 3 divisions of football, inspirations for youngsters to pick up the sport has not been lessened thanks to efforts from some of the organisations that have been arranging tournaments every now and then.

One such organisation is Our Lady of Lourdes Church, Orlem Malad West, who will be conducting their Annual All Mumbai Inter-Parish tournament better known as the Orlem Super Cup. The tournament will be played at the Church grounds from March 1 – March 10, 7.30 pm onwards. The tournament is organized by the Lourdes Sports Committee, a church affiliated sports body that has been conducting grass roots level sports interventions for the last 6 years in the local community.

In its fifth edition now, the Orlem Super Cup has become a brighter and fancier affair with rich awards throughout the tournament.  Like every year, each of the teams will be given Jerseys making the tournament even more glamorous and entertaining. 32 teams will be participating and vying for top honors while this year will also see the introduction of an invitational Veterans tournament played alongside with the top 8 Veteran teams from Mumbai.

Sponsored by Dhoot developers, played under flood-lights, this tournament has cash prizes for the Winners and Runners Up in each category while individual talent are also awarded. The previous five winners of the tournament have been St. Ignatius of Byculla, Our Lady of Sea from Madh, St. Joseph’s of Mira Road and Our Lady of Egypt, Kalina respectively.

The tournaments provides a great platform for youth to showcase their talent and while Mumbai lacks in number of teams plying their trade in the top leagues there has been no lack of efforts in the grassroots level of the city. These competitive matches not only gives players a regular game practice but also helps them develop good football tactical knowledges which eventually help a player to become a complete footballer.

We from footballcounter.com commend Our Lady of Lourdes church, Orlem Malad for their efforts in the game and wish them a very best and successful tournament.
