ATK or Kerala Blasters? Iain Hume answers…

Indian Super League has witnessed many international stars ply their trade in the league. There are stories of famed players failing to make their mark in the league, and of course, there are stories telling us how some players went from anonymity to the heroes, but is there a story more interesting than that of Iain Hume’s?

The only foreigner to have played in the all four editions of Indian Super League, the Canadian is the all-time top-scorer of this cash rich league. He was in the roster of Kerala Blasters in the inaugural edition, and but the next two-seasons saw the former Leicester City attacker don the colours of ATK, and he now plays for Kerala Blasters.

Let it be ATK, or Kerala Blasters. One should have to admit that Hume has had a successful jaunts in India. The teams he played in India are the two clubs, who have ardent fan base to support them. But where did he enjoy the most? Iain Hume was asked about this in a programme, Blasting out with Blasters, conducted by leading Malayalam language news channel, Manorama News.

However, Hume was not ready to make a decision, saying “I can’t compare both. You’ve got arguments on both sides. In the first season, Kerala was incredible because, I never imagined playing in India. We almost won it. Things didn’t work out, So I moved, and thankfully, it was Kolkata who came in. I had two great years there. Did very well personally, and the team did very well.”

Hume also revealed that ATK’s squad in the season was the best, saying “In my eyes, we should’ve won the second ISL. I think we were the best team in the league.”

He also lauded the passion of football fans in Kerala, and said that “The fans in Kerala are incredibly in love with football. I’m very fortunate that I’ve very good reputation with the fans, and I’ve done well for the club.”

“Like I said in social media, I’ll be back stronger, and fitter than I’m now, promise” said Iain Hume, who is currently caught up with injury. The player will likely miss the remainder of the season for the team.
